The Find

Hello all!

Well, today is Bloomsday here in Dublin. Literary fanatics have seemingly swept into the city to create even more traffic and madness than usual (at least that is what we are attributing it to).

We had an eventful day in the four hours that we were out. We didn't actually get up and moving until about 11. We needed the sleep.

We set out to find a store called Jenny Vander. Duncan's guide book pointed it out as a top notch place to go for vintage jewelry and clothing. I couldn't miss that! It wasn't too hard to find either. Once we walked in, I knew this was my favorite store we had been to in Dublin! I've been in the market for a brooch for the wedding dress. Duncan and I perused the jewelry for a while, asked to see a few pieces... until we stumbled upon something that just kind of drew us in. The more we looked at the brooch, the more we liked it. When the saleslady took it out of the cabinet, we saw that it was from the 1930s and that it was Czech (which is Duncan's heritage). That sealed the deal! So, here are a few pics:

We both love it very much, and that is my something old to wear on the big day. Speaking of the big day, every Irish person we have told of the engagement has been shocked. Apparently the average age to get married in Ireland is 30 for women and 32 for men. Naturally, they think we are quite young... and that the American way of getting married after you graduate college rather strange.

Anyhow, other exciting news for the day includes Duncan feeding a crippled pigeon by hand (the pigeons are remarkably forward here), and running into the Berry kids and Dr. Carroll again. We had pretty much given up hope of seeing Clif, but there they were when we were about to enter the Post. We had a brief reuniting... and then headed home!

Quite a day so far... tonight we're planning to watch a movie. There are a couple of trips being planned amongst all the Berry kids too, so we'll let you know when those are firmed up.

We love you and miss you all!

That brooch is absolutely perfect....it's quite lovely...as will be the young bride wearing it! It will always hold a special place amongst the many jeweled treasures that you collect over the years.

It's so cool that you all keep running into the other Berry folks. We look forward to our iChat session in a few hours.

Love y'all!

that brooch is so pretty. i think it has the same classiness as your ring, so they should go well together.

by the way, how much longer until you guys come home? :(

Heart, heart, heart! I absolutely am tickled that you found that beautiful brooch. And Czech to boot! You know I'll need to see it as soon as you can get it unpacked. I rather like the concept of a jewelry-making preacher--quirky, yet appealing. Oh, and about the journalists...and the alcohol...yeah. Your posts continue to be delightful.
Much love to you both!
