One more thing about our day; we learned that even in the world of nature, rejection is a common occurrence. A prime example of this is the saga of two pigeons we saw in Dun Laoghaire. The male pigeon (I shall refer to him as Tony... think big, muscular Jersey type) was doing his little dance around a lady pigeon (Ivana), who was pecking around the dirt for rocks and stuff. Tony was puffing his neck (flexing his biceps), and doing a little dance around Ivana (blocking her way to the exit), sometimes making a little circle, and doing the best he could to get her attention (talking about his car and how much money he makes). Ivana, however, was as disinterested as she could be (avoiding eye contact), and just kept walking around, pecking here and there between the pebbles (checking her nails and playing with her cocktail napkin.) Tony, after following her for a few minutes around the sidewalk (following her out to her car), finally let her be ("Pshh... she wasn't good enough for the Tony anyway!").
As for Ivana? I doubt she even noticed Tony. Just as well-- she bats for the other team.
True story.
